Just outside Vernal, UT is one of the largest fossil
quarries in the world with over 1500 bones partially exposed on a rock wall for
us to view in awe. From the
visitor center at the entrance to the park, a shuttle bus took us to the quarry
wall. The wall forms part of the exhibit building.
Inside, we could view the exposed bones from a distance and
read through interactive displays. Visitors are allowed to and encouraged to
touch some of the bones in one small section of the wall.
Between the dinosaur national monument and the Field History
museum in downtown Vernal, I went through quite an informative process.
Some rock art on display at the Field History Museum in Vernal, UT. These were by the Fremont and Ute tribes who lived in this region.
By the time we got through visiting the two places, it was extremely hot. So we gave up the idea of driving through the park’s scenic trail. Instead, we went back to downtown Vernal, had a coffee at the local coffee shop “Swoop” and made use of their free WiFi.
